Kids get lively dose of Day of the Dead
Submitted by KATIE ARONS

San Clemente's oldest school, Las Palmas Elementary, treated its students and their families to a cross-cultural experience Friday evening with its annual celebration of Dia de los Muertos.

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday in which families and friends gather in a colorful celebration of the lives of those who have died. Altars are created with photos, mementos, fruit, bread and other favorite things of the ancestors being honored. The holiday's tradition holds that the dead return to Earth to visit their living relatives.

Las Palmas set up a large haunted house and a traditional altar, along with live music, food and crafts.
